Moon Township, Pa. -- On Tuesday, Oct. 21, the Robert Morris University (RMU) College Republicans will be sponsoring a rally featuring U.S. Sen. John McCain at 5:30 p.m. in the Sewall Center Arena. This event will bring as many as 4,000 people to campus, which will require changes to the class schedule, as well as significant parking and traffic restrictions as follows:
CLASS SCHEDULE
Daytime classes will be held on the Moon Township campus ending at 3:15 p.m. ALL EVENING CLASSES AT THE MOON TOWNSHIP CAMPUS ARE CANCELLED TUESDAY. This is necessary due to the large influx of traffic that we expect on campus beginning in the early afternoon. Classes scheduled to meet Tuesday evening may make up that class session either during the evening of Friday, Dec. 12 or on Saturday, Dec. 13. Faculty should contact Registrar Frank Perry for details and to make arrangements.
Classes normally scheduled to take place in downtown Pittsburgh and at the Regional Learning Alliance in Cranberry will go on as normal Tuesday evening.
PARKING
The free lot across from Sewall Center and the upper Sewall parking lots will be closed all day Tuesday to provide parking for those attending the McCain rally. Parking will be permitted Tuesday for students, faculty and staff in the intramural field behind John Jay Center.
The University also will provide shuttle service starting at 8 a.m. to anyone who wishes to park at K-Mart.
TRAFFIC
The rally will have a major impact on campus traffic, particularly in the afternoon. The doors will open for seating at 3:30 p.m., and Sen. McCain is set to arrive at 5:30 p.m. and speak shortly thereafter. Please allow for plenty of extra time to make your way around campus. Be advised that the campus will be closed to all traffic when the McCain motorcade enters and leaves campus. McCain is tentatively scheduled to speak for about 45 minutes.
IF YOU WANT TO GO
The event is free to attend, but tickets are required. The campaign has provided RMU with a large block of tickets which will be distributed to students, faculty and staff on a first-come, first-served basis. Each student and employee may receive one ticket while supplies last. You must present your RMU Freedom Card to obtain a ticket.
Please stop by the RMU Office of Student Life, Nicholson Center, Second Floor. For additional information, please call the Office of Student Life at 412-397-4352.
