DNP - Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) 

Objectives

The educational objectives of the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) Track of the B.S.N. to D.N.P. Program are to prepare certified registered adult nurse practitioners who:

  1. Monitor, educate and plan for the long-term health care needs of adults they care for;

  2. Diagnose and treat primary care diseases and illnesses in the adult setting and address a wide range of adult health care problems, in collaboration with other health care professionals;

  3. Address adult health needs in a holistic, culturally competent manner, including diet, exercise, complementary therapies, genetics, drug and alcohol use, and others;

  4. Identify patients' specialty referral needs and make such referrals as appropriate;

  5. Provide support and treatment on a long-term basis for patients with chronic illnesses; and

  6. Become a partner in the health care processes that involve other specialists.

Curriculum 

The curriculum for the ANP Track includes a total of 80 credits and 1,144 clinical hours. The program can be completed either full-time (three years, eight semesters), accelerated part-time (four years, 12 semesters) or part-time (six years, 18 semesters) as follows. The program begins once a year in the fall semester.

Part-time Option

The Part-time Option is individualized to meet student needs and is adapted from the Accelarated Part-time Option.

 Full-time Option

Selected individuals may be eligible for full time status after they have demonstrated proficiency in year 1, which may allow students to complete the program in less than 4 years.
