The nursing program at RMU builds on the natural and behavioral sciences, integrating liberal arts and professional courses into a cohesive program. You will develop strong technical skills, as well as the clinical judgment and critical thinking necessary to succeed in today's rapidly changing health care system. You will learn to care for those who are well or at risk for illness as well as those who are sick and dying. Your clinical experiences will involve working with clients in community and hospital settings.
The program's unique focus on business, communications and technology in addition to strong clinical practice skills will give you a foundation for success in today's health care market. You'll take a required accounting class that will provide an appreciation of how nursing fits into the business of health care. You'll also take four courses in the University's award-winning Communication Skills Program, giving you added confidence in your ability to communicate with patients, doctors, coworkers, administrators and policy-makers, both verbally and in writing.
All undergraduate nursing students will receive a handheld computing device capable of storing software applications and data. This information will be at your fingertips as you learn to care for patients in state-of-the-art clinical facilities. You'll also get plenty of practice in RMU's up-to-date nursing laboratory. In the laboratory learning environment, you will use bedside computers and patient simulators that will assist you in developing clinical decision-making skills. Becoming comfortable and competent using this high-tech equipment will give you an edge as technology continues to evolve in the future.
