--Joshua Caskey, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who completed two tours of duty in Iraq, has earned RMU’s highest undergraduate award, the Presidential Transformational Award. President Chris Howard will present the award to Caskey, who is majoring in history, at the undergraduate commencement ceremony on May 7. As a junior, Caskey was the recipient of the John Graham Founding Dean Award, which is presented annually to the top student, graduate or undergraduate, in the School of Education and Social Sciences. He has made the Dean’s List every semester, and he represented the School of Education and Social Sciences in this year’s Undergraduate Research Conference at RMU. Caskey is an active member of the university’s History Club. Caskey is also a driving force behind the Iraq/Afghanistan Veterans Project, an oral history project to document the experiences of veterans of America’s recent wars. Read more about Josh Caskey.
-- RMU Sentry Media and eight of its students placed Robert Morris University as the fourth highest university with number of awards received this year by the Society for Collegiate Journalists. Click here to view a list of the recipients and their awards.
-- Emily Dennis, who will graduate next week with a Ph.D. in instructional management and leadership, won a Leadership Excellence Award from HR.com for her work as the director of the Mountaineer Leadership Academy at West Virginia University.
-- RMU female actuarial science graduates have been returning to campus for a lunch series through the Women's Leadership and Mentorship Program and in conjunction with the Actuarial Science Program to share their experiences with undergraduate WLMP members. The attendees consisted of 10 to 12 young women majoring in actuarial science, along with their faculty mentors. This lunch series led to a small grant of $500 from Erie Insurance to the WLMP to continue the program next academic year, thanks to RMU alumna Jennifer Wagner.

-- Ferris Crane, associate professor of media arts, delivered a scholarly research paper, "Graphic Design in Russia,” at the Pop Culture Conference in Seattle, Washington on March 25. The paper was the direct result of a trip to Moscow where she was guest faculty at the Lomonosov Moscow State University. In addition to historic content, the presentation included several contemporary photographs of signage and print.
-- The Rapid Prototyping Journal
has bestowed a Highly Commended Paper Award on University Professor Arif Sirinterlikci and Berardo Artieri, who completed his M.S. in Engineering Management from RMU, for their article "Environmental, Health, and Safety Issues in Rapid Prototyping." Associate Professors Dan Short (environmental science) and Paul Badger (chemistry) were also major contibutors to the work. The award was part of the 2016 Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence
. Sirinterlikci is head of the Department of Engineering. Short and Badger are both Associate Professors in the Department of Science.
-- Susan Van Cleve, associate professor of nursing, was an invited speaker for the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing 2015-16 Pharmacology and Clinical Practice Update Series. Her talk was "Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Children and Adolescents." She gave another talk, "Autism Spectrum Disorder: Update for Primary Care Providers" at the Coalition of Nurse Practitioners 13th Annual Conference, and another presentation on autism spectrum disorder to the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Annual Conference.

-- The Media Arts Department’s Advanced Digital Photography class is pleased to present “Captured: A Group Photography Show” 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 29, in the Wheatley Center Atrium. In preparation for this exhibition, students explored a variety of photographic genres both commercial and fine art. Exhibitor’s included: Katherine Goettmann, Jacob Hartzfeld, Krista Johnson, Michael Kropiewnicki, Cooper Kusbit, Courtney Pirillo, Christopher Price, and Briam Wilwohl. The event is free and open to the public.
-- The Spring 2016 Media Arts Senior Show runs through May 6 in the Media Arts Gallery in Wheatley Center. The Media Arts Department will presents the outstanding work 30 graduating seniors. The show is free and open to the public. Gallery Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
