-- Pittsburgh's pitch to Amazon to open its next headquarters in the Golden Triangle impressed a lot of people, especially with the powerful video "Future. Forged. For all."  New York Times business columnist James Stewart predicts Pittsburgh is the frontrunner.

The "HQ Pittsburgh"  effort is led by Mayor Bill Peduto, County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, and the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, assisted by a strong RMU contingent on its executive committee: President Chris Howard and Trustees Rich Harshman and Morgan O'Brien.

RMU already has the first Amazon Web Services Academy program in Pennsylvania. Surely a Pittsburgh HQ is the obvious next step.

-- RMU accounting teams won 1st AND 2nd place at the IIA/PICPA Audit Case Competition on November 2! There were 29 teams made up of 104 students from 6 universities participating in this case competition. 3 out of these 7 finalists were RMU teams.

RMU team "The Colonial Accountants" (Kaitlyn Bittner, Kearsten Brocious, Mary Funderlich) took 1st place and the team "RMU Dream Team" (Winter Fondi, Jaime Miller, Courtney Palladino, Schanely Renfrew) placed 2nd! The other RMU team, "Accountaholics" (Alyssa Amadio, William Fullerton, Kaci Smith) was top 7. RMU accounting students now took first place three years in a row in this professional case competition!

-- The RMU Marching Show Band received 1st place in the Pittsburgh Labor Day Parade in the Senior Band Division.

-- RMU in the News has been updated with a ton of news media coverage in October.


-- Christine Holtz, professor of media arts, will be presenting her research as part of American Studies; Environmental Studies; Working Class Culture Panel “Poison in the Garden: Politics, Industry, and Health” at the Mid-Atlantic Popular and American Culture Association’s Annual Conference in Philadelphia on Friday, November 10.

-- Congrats to Patty Then, studio technician, who won a seat on her local council in Tuesday's election. She was elected to a 4 year term on the Conway Council starting in January 2018.


--The Massey Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation presents ENTREPRENEURSHIP WEEK at RMU November 13th - 15th. In collaboration with RMU's offices, student groups, and faculty members, MCEI brings you awe-inspiring and interdisciplinary programs featuring entrepreneurship and innovation during the worldwide celebration of Entrepreneurship Week!!

-- Join fellow Colonials at the inaugural Breakfast with Santa! This family-friendly event includes holiday crafts, games, and a picture with the Jolly Old Elf. Swing by Yorktown on Saturday, December 9 at 8:30 a.m. to join in on the festivities. Reservations are required as seating is limited.

TOYS FOR TOTS...The RMU Athletic Department has partnered with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve on this annual community outreach program every year since 2008 collecting hundreds of toys for area youths thanks to the generosity of many Colonial fans. Collection bins on campus will be located beginning Tuesday Nov. 7 in Joe Walton Stadium (first floor main lobby), Wheatley Center (main lobby), Massey Hall (main lobby), Island Sports Center (main lobby), Nicholson Center (across from Admissions Office) and Hale Center (inside third floor doors facing Franklin Center). Please be generous by donating a new unwrapped toy. Or better yet bring a new unwrapped toy to any or all of these Robert Morris "Toys for Tots" home games and get in free!
