-- RMU and the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) are launching the Reverse Degree Program, which will allow students who transfer to Robert Morris from CCAC to earn both a bachelor’s degree and an associate’s degree. Students who have transferred from CCAC with at least 30 credit hours and have earned at least 12 credits at RMU can apply those Robert Morris credits toward their associate's degree at CCAC. -- Ann D. Jabro, university professor of communication, presented the results of an engaged learning project on event planning at the International Public Relations Research Conference in Miami. "Event Planning as Connection, Collaboration and Community Building" explores how relationship development and maintenance theories serve as an appropriate foundation for an applied learning course in event planning.

-- Arif Sirinterlikci, university professor of engineering, has been named an America Makes Advisory Group member for Workforce and Educational Outreach. The group is part of the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, a network of colleges and universities, manufacturers, and nonprofit organizations aimed at developing high-tech manufacturing in the United States.


-- The Pittsburgh Musical Theater, in association with Robert Morris University, will be presenting Les Miserables at the Byham Theater from March 27 through April 6. Les Miserables is the powerful tale of Jean ValJean and his life-long struggle for redemption. The show is directed by Coordinator of RMU Colonial Theatre Ken Gargaro and choreographed by Colleen Petrucci with musical direction by Brent Alexander. Ticket prices start at $12.25 with half price tickets for any student.

-- The next RMU Roundtable presentation, "Overview and Applications of Statistical Netowrk Science" takes place Thursday, March 27 at 2 p.m. in Franklin 201. Chris Groendyke will present research he has conducted in statistical network science. How network models can be used to study the spread of epidemics through a population will be discussed through the analysis of a measles epidemic that spread through the town of Hagelloch, Germany, in 1861. Finally, how networks can be used to better understand the structure of financial systems will be analyzed.

-- The Women’s Leadership Advisory Council (WLAC) is pleased to invite you to the semi-annual Celebration of Women Reception on Monday, March 31, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Executive Dining Room in Sewall Center.  The reception is the culminating event for Women’s History Month and features Rooney Scholar Gaelebale Nnunu Tsheko, a professor and researcher from the University of Botswana. Tsheko truly embodies this year’s Women’s History Month theme, “Celebrating Women of Character, Courage, and Commitment.”

The Celebration of Women Reception is the fourth event in a series of events sponsored by the WLAC. The events are designed to showcase the work of our talented faculty and staff, while giving those within the RMU community a chance to network with others in an interdisciplinary fashion and casual atmosphere. This is a wonderful opportunity to come out and meet some new colleagues! The program is open to the entire RMU community, including faculty, staff and students. Beverages and light hors d’ oeuvres will be served. There is no charge to attend this event, but raffle tickets will be sold to benefit the Women of RMU endowed scholarship. Past raffle items have included luxury baskets filled with wine, chocolate and even spa gift cards!

-- The ninth annual Gold Show, featuring the best work of Media Arts students, will be on exhibit in the Wheatley Center Media Arts Gallery through April 10. The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

*AHA ROAD TRIP! *Looking for tickets to this weekend's Atlantic Hockey Association Tournament semifinals and finals in Rochester, N.Y.? How about a ride to and from the games? We have both for RMU students and alumni only. The ride is free via motor coach. Tickets are free for RMU students with Freedom Card; $16 for all others per game. The action takes place at Blue Cross Arena, and RMU opens play on Friday at 7:30 pm. Fans are on their own for food and overnight accommodations. We will depart lower Sewall Center parking lot at 11 a.m. on Friday and arrive in time for the first semifinal game of the tournament at 4:05 p.m. Our return to RMU will be based on the result of our game on Friday. Game tickets are free for RMU students with Freedom Card; $20 for all others. Transportation is free. Riders are on their own for meals. Departure time is 7 a.m. from lower Sewall parking lot. Space is limited. Call us at 412-397-4949 to reserve your ticket as well as your seat on the bus. Bus will return to RMU immediately after the conclusion of the game.
