A Friday morning landslide has caused PennDOT to close one side of University Boulevard from Stoops Ferry Road uphill towards the car dealerships until at least through Monday.
Debris was continuing to tumble onto the busy roadway throughout Friday. More is expected because of recent rains and an unstable hillside, said Michael Adams, operations engineer for PennDOT’s District 11.
“On top is a big rock outcrop, and there’s a lot of dirt, mud, rocks, and trees overhanging that are ready to fall,” Adams said. “Once it falls we’ll clean it up, and when we deem it safe we’ll reopen the road.”
For now, traffic approaching the university in the southbound lanes coming from Coraopolis must detour right onto Stoops Ferry Road, then left on Flaugherty Run Road and left on Brodhead Road to get back to University Boulevard.
