Robert Morris University dominated the Pennsylvania News Media Association 2019 Keystone Student Press Awards, with student journalists representing RMU Sentry Media winning 10 awards.

The tally, which includes three first place and three second place honors, eclipsed all other universities statewide in Division II, for enrollment under 10,000 students. It is also more awards than RMU has won in the last five Keystone Student Press Awards combined.

Photographer Megan Shandel led RMU recipients with two first place and a second place award for images she took in the aftermath of October’s mass shootings at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill.

Logan Carney and Michael Evans each won two awards: a first place they shared for their video story about a boy with a brain tumor who spent a day with the men’s basketball team, and individual awards to each for their columns. David Auth also won two awards for his sports photos.

RMU Sentry Media was a repeat recipient, earning an honorable mention for web site after winning first place in the category last year.

Statewide in Division II, Lehigh University won six awards, while four universities each collected four – Point Park, St. Joseph’s, Shippensburg, and Slippery Rock.

Winners will be honored at the Student Keystone Press Awards annual luncheon and ceremony April 3 in Hershey.
