Did you know the NFL’s first cheerleaders also rooted for the Colonials? In 1961 the Steelers introduced the Steelerettes, a cheer squad made up of Robert Morris Junior College students. The women strutted the Steelers sidelines for the whole decade, then disbanded when the team moved to Three Rivers Stadium in 1970.
Many of the Steelerettes have stayed close since those days. Here they are at the most recent reunion, at RMU Homecoming in the fall.
Front: Barbara Pawlesh Kruze, Jeanne Bachman Rattigan, Dianne Feazell Rossini, Norreen Mercer Modery, Lynn Gran Moran
Back: Denise Seibert Hughes, Fran Coppola Pollus, Cindy Murray Balentine, Gloria Sapovchak Molenaur, Lani Dibble Fritz and Val Mafrice Miller
