33 Games Slated For 2006-07 Men’s Ice Hockey Schedule

Home-and-home series with Notre Dame and Miami (Ohio) along with a 20-game College Hockey America schedule highlight the 2006-07 Robert Morris University men’s ice hockey schedule. The Colonials have 14 games scheduled to be played in Pittsburgh this upcoming season, 13 at the RMU Island Sports Center and another at Mellon Arena.

“This is will be a very challenging schedule for our program. We are very excited to continue the steps we made as a program last year,” said head coach Derek Schooley. “We are playing some high level competition in and out of conference headlined by the Pittsburgh College Hockey Showcase at Mellon Arena against Notre Dame as well as a home game against Miami. We will have to be at our best in all our games.”

In addition to their 33-game schedule, Robert Morris will play two exhibition games, hosting the Penn State club team Oct. 8, and the U.S. National Under-18 Team Nov. 19. The season kicks off in traditional fashion as the team splits up for the Blue / White Game Sunday, Oct. 1, at 4:05 p.m.

Robert Morris opens with four-straight road games, opening at Canisius for the second time in the team’s first three seasons, Saturday, Oct. 7, at 4:00 p.m. The Colonials won their first-ever game in program history at Canisius, 3-1, on Oct. 22, 2004. A two-game trip to Quinnipiac Oct. 13-14 follows before a single-game Oct. 27 at Cornell.

The Colonials open their 20-game CHA schedule the following weekend, hosting Niagara in a pair of 7:35 p.m. games Nov. 3-4. RMU has dropped seven-straight to the Purple Eagles, including playoff losses in each of their first two seasons. The conference slate continues with a trip to Bemidji State Nov. 10-11 and then back home to host Ala.-Huntsville Nov. 17-18. The busy weekend finishes Sunday, Nov. 19, with an exhibition game against the U.S. National Under-18 team.

A four-game road trip covering 4,232 miles takes the Colonials to the University of Denver, the 2005 national champions, Nov. 25 and Air Force Nov. 26. The road swing ends with a pair of conference games at Ala.-Huntsville Dec. 9-10, the team’s last games before the holiday season.

Robert Morris and Merrimack meet for the first time Dec. 29-30, at the RMU Island Sports Center for a set of 8:05 games.

Robert Morris serves as co-host with the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Pittsburgh College Hockey Showcase which features the Colonials taking on Notre Dame at Mellon Arena, Friday, Jan. 5. The game is scheduled to start at 8:05 p.m. The Colonials then travel to South Bend Sunday, Jan. 7, for a 4:00 p.m. game against the Irish.

That game marks the start of a six-game road trip starting with CHA-foe Ala.-Huntsville Jan. 12-13. They continue the CHA schedule at Wayne State the following weekend, Jan. 19-20, before traveling to Princeton for a Monday night non-conference game Jan. 29.

The longest road-trip of the year is followed by the longest home stand of the season, a four-game conference set starting with Niagara University Feb. 2-3. Bemidji State visits the RMU Island Sports Center the next weekend, Feb. 9-10.

RMU and Miami (Ohio) will play a home-and-home series starting in Oxford Feb. 15 and finishing at Robert Morris Feb. 17.

The Colonials wrap up the regular-season with four CHA games starting at Niagara Feb. 23-24. Wayne State comes to the RMU Island Sports Center Mar. 2-3 as the Colonials finish up the year at home for the second-straight season.
