This course expands upon the diagnostic reasoning skills developed in the Advanced Physical Assessment/Diagnosis course and emphasizes utilization of these skills in obtaining a comprehensive physical and psychiatric assessment. Classroom learning provides a comprehensive overview of the Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition, text revision (DSM-IV-TR) and utilizing this manual to formulate psychiatric diagnoses. Content on clinical interviewing techniques, mental status assessment, and symptoms of psychiatric illnesses will guide the student through the process of formulating both physical and psychiatric diagnoses.
