NURS3011-A Healthcare In Australia (Spring 2018)

Course Details

The course is offered the second 8 weeks online with 4 modules that will need to be completed. The modules will be led by both RMU and University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) Australia faculty. The actual trip to Australia will occur from 5/17 - 6/2. The cost is $3500 for the trip, however, you must register for the course in the Spring semester as well. Scholarship funds will be available, but the amounts and process for applying have not been finalized at this point. Some of the activities in Australia include: 1. Visits to Australian Healthcare facilities 2. Presentations from USC faculty members 3. Learning about the Australian culture through various 'fun' cultural events 4. Developing an understanding of the outback and the native population 5. Welcome to Country presentation by native Australians 6. Visits to the CAVE (360 simulation experiences) and Virtual Reality experiences in healthcare education 7. A 2-3 day trip to Fraser Island prior to returning to the USA Section will be taught totally online with no scheduled class meetings. Students must arrange for daily access to a computer and the Internet prior to the start of classes. Robert Morris labs are to be used only as a backup in special situations and may not be relied upon for extended periods of time. In addition to the Internet link, online classes have a large emphasis on email. All messages from the instructor and other information regarding online classes, including user ids, passwords, and login instructions will be sent to your Robert Morris University email account. Course Description

This course introduces learners to Healthcare Concepts in Australia. With the National Healthcare System, Australia remains a global leader in providing comprehensive healthcare to the citizens. This course and study abroad experience will provide SNHS students an opportunity to explore global perspectives of Australia healthcare with an emphasis on the healthcare models, structures and delivery. Students will focus on the impact of healthcare systems on policy and practice by comparing and contrasting the public health services model of Australia with the current US healthcare system. Students will engage in discipline specific activities related to the development, implementation and evaluation of healthcare policies and practices within the country and will include presentations by University of the Sunshine Coast faculty members.
