CI338 - Advanced Cobol Programming

Fall 1997

This course provides the student with experience in the development and maintenance of COBOL programs as a part of overall information systems, using the "Program Development Process Model." The following programming concepts are addressed through discussion, examples, and program assignments: data validation, multiple file handling, advanced table processing, internal COBOL sorting, batch sequential file processing, batch indexed sequential file processing, sequential file updating, indexed sequential file updating, and use of sub-programs. Additional concepts covered through lecture and discussion include relative file processing, structured program design considerations, the interrelationship of programs within a system, coding for program efficiency and clarity, and the creation and use of quality program documentation.
