THEA1011 - Production I Summer 2013 Production is a one credit course that is open to any student within the University as an elective. This course is required for all students who choose a concentration in Theatre. Non-majors may repeat the course for up to 3 credit hours while Theatre majors are required to take 6 credit hours. Production includes but is not limited to the following activities: Performance in a departmental production, Stage Management, Set construction/crew, Lighting/Sound, Costuming, Promotions/Publicity, Front of House, and Production Dramaturgy. 1 Credits

THEA1017 - Applied Voice I Summer 2013 Students enrolled in this course will take private vocal lessons. These lessons will enable students to improve their breathing, range, control, tone and intonation by practicing vocal and breathing exercises. The students will add to their singing repertoire and acquire sensitivity to music and lyrics through research and coaching. Students will enhance their performance technique and build their confidence through continuity of observation and feedback from a professional vocal instructor, practice, and regular perfomrnce opportunities. 1 Credits

THEA1018 - Applied Voice II Summer 2013 Students enrolled in this course will take private vocal lessons. These lessons will enable students to continue to improve their breathing, range, control, tone and intonation by refining the breathing and vocal exercises developed in Applied Voice I. The students will broaden their singing repertoire and acquire additional sensitivity to music and lyrics by distilling skills learned in Applied Voice I. This course will build on Applied Voice I by providing long term continuity of observation by a voice professional. This will enable students to hone their performance technique and continue to build their confidence and technique. 1 Credits

THEA1020 - Applied Voice IV Summer 2013 The students enrolled in Applied Voice IV will continue to take private vocal lessons. These lessons will temper their breathing, range, contro, tone, and intonation by refining the breathing and vocal exercises developed in Applied Voice III. The students will continue to augment their singing repertoire and clarify their sensitivity to music and lyrics by distilling skills learned in Applied Voice III and adding more challenging repertory to htier portfolio of song. The course will build on Applied Voice III by providing long term continuity of observation by a voice professional. This will enable stuents to solidify their performance technique and perfet their auditioning capability. Prerequisite: THEA1019 1 Credits

THEA1021 - Applied Voice V Summer 2013 The students enrolled in Applied Voice V will attend twelve private voice lessons over the semester. These lessons will refine their breathing, range, control, tone and intonation by encouraging continuity of the breathing and vocal exercises developed in Applied Voice IV. The students will extend their singing repertoire to include more esoteric repertoire and they will clarify their sensitivity to music and lyrics by distilling skills learned in Applied Voice IV. The course will build on Applied Voice IV by providing continuity of observation and active coaching by a voice professional. This will enable students to solidify their performance technique and perfect their auditioning capability. Prerequisite: THEA1020 1 Credits

THEA1022 - Applied Voice Vi Summer 2013 The students enrolled in Applied Voice VI will attend twelve private voice lessons over the semester. These lessons will act as a culminating experience for their technical training by solidifying the breathing and vocal exercises developed in Voice I-V. The students' singing repertoire and sensitivity to music and lyrics will be tested in the planned recital. The course will consolidate the skills acquired in Applied Voice I-V by providing a platform of a lifelong commitment to study. This will enable students to enter the professional world as either a teacher of voice or a professional singer. Prerequisite: THEA1021 1 Credits

THEA1030 - Introduction To Theatre Summer 2013 This course introduces students to theater as an Art form in both literature and practice by reading selected great works of dramatic literature, placing these works in historical context and performing selected scenes from this literature. Students will see drama as theater from an actor's perspective by framing dramatic literature in the technical application of drama to stage. 3 Credits

THEA1040 - Fundamentals Of Acting Summer 2013 Students will build on their technical skills begun in Intro to Theater and begin to explore the nature of Acting Technique as having both an Internal and External nature. The students will create characters by applying their technique to various texts both in scene and monologue work. The students will be aware of the stage as a place where Truth in communication is an accepted practice and the power of applying this Truth to the human condition. 3 Credits

THEA1050 - Music Appreciation Summer 2013 The students in this course will broaden their enjoyment of music and enhance their understanding of music by listening to a selection of major musical works from the standard repertory, applying basic principles of analysis and relating specific musical periods to the surrounding cultural milieu. Elementary music theory and it's relation to the piano keyboard will improve students' ability to read music and students will deepen their understanding of music by exploring the concept of musicality in performance. Students will learn to aurally recognize and comprehend the various elements of music that define style, genre, and period, and develop the vocabulary to discuss them. 3 Credits

THEA1060 - Musical Theatre: Jazz Dance I Summer 2013 This course will expose students to technical exercises that will strengthen and lengthen muscles, build coordination and develop dance skills in the students. The combinations will expose students to basic musical theater repertory applications that are useful for audition and performance purposes. 3 Credits

THEA1070 - Musical Theatre: Jazz Dance II Summer 2013 The students will improve the jazz dance technique acquired in Jazz Dance I through warm-ups, exercises and combinations. The technical exercises will strengthen and lengthen muscles, build coordination and develop dance skills in the students. The combinations will expose students to basic musical theater repertory applications that are useful for audition and performance purposes. Prerequisite: THEA1060 3 Credits

THEA1210 - Chorus I Summer 2013 The students in Chorus I will participate in a singing ensemble designed to improve their skills in sight-reading, ensemble blending and harmony. The chorus repertiore will consist of appropriate classical material as well as popular styles. The choices designed to reinforce the students' ability to perform in a viariety of settings. The students' sensitivity to harmony, tone and ensemble will be tested in a culminating concert. Opportunities will be sought to engage the chorus in community activates where appropriate. 1 Credits

THEA1220 - Chorus II Summer 2013 The students in Chorus II will continue to participate in a singing ensemble and build on their skills in sight-reading, ensemble blending and harmony developed in Chorus I. THEA2040 - Acting For The Camera Summer 2013 The students will develop a practical knowledge of the basic techniques for acting for the camera. Familiarity with the specialized vocabulary of film and video production, blocking for individual scene and shot work and the differences between stage and screen acting will for the core of the class objectives. Each student will assemble a 'reel' of camera work that will include reporting, interviewing, commercial and scene work. 3 Credits

THEA2050 - Dramatic Writing Summer 2013 this course will provide students with opportunities to hone their skills as tellers of stories, both fictional and factual, using the media of live theater, radio or readers of theater, and film or video. Students will use a variety of appropriate script formats and will be introduced to rhetorical methods of invention as they apply to the creative arts, including invention based on theoretical models of dramatic writing and performance. The course will emphasize a process-oriented approach to writing and a sensitive 3 Credits

THEA2060 - Modern Trends In Theatre Summer 2013 This course examines contemporary dramatic literature of the last 30 years and how that literature has been interpreted on the commercial and college stage. Students read a wide range of dramatic literature including musicals, dramas, and comedies with special attention given to Tony and Pulitzer Prize winners. Students also study movements in theatre such as audience interaction, puppetry, improvisation and dramatic adaptations of literature or film. Students investigate production histories, design concepts, playwrights and write literary research essays in MLA format. 3 Credits

THEA2070 - Stage Combat Summer 2013 This course safely delves into creating the illusion of violence. Basic instruction in unarmed stage combat and quarterstaff stage combat will be addressed. Emphasis will be placed on safe execution of stage combat choreography, partnering and character development though stage combat choices. This course is taught completely through hands-on work with partners. 3 Credits

THEA2080 - Directing Summer 2013 This course explores the role of the director and how that position functions within the collaborative theatre art form. Topics addressed includes the nature of Drama and action, play analysis, casting techniques, working with designers, working with actors in the search for character, visual aesthetics for the theatre, flow theory, and organizing and running rehearsals. The course is taught through lecture, discussion and hands-on directing of projects. Prerequisite: THEA1040 or THEA2040 3 Credits

THEA2170 - Musical Theatre: Jazz Dance IV Summer 2013 The students will consolidate their jazz dance technique acquired in Jazz Dance I-III through warm-ups, exercises and combinations. Technical exercises to build strength, coordination and skill will become second nature. The combinations will expose students to the most advanced musical theater repertory and parepare them to audition and perform in the professional area. Pre-requisite: THEA2160 3 Credits

THEA3310 - Voice and Diction Summer 2013 Students in this course will develop the skills necessary to be easily heard and immediately understood in any performance situation: theatrical, speech, or business. Students will adhere to acceptable practices of conversational English and overcome regional inflections and idiosyncratic vocal habits. The students will increase their vocal flexibility, attention to nuance, and articulation precision by applying a scoring technique for Spoken english drawn from The International Phonetic Alphabet. 3 Credits
