Fall 2021 Plans Released

RMU kicks off 100th anniversary year with a return to in-person events, welcoming new and returning students.

Despite the many challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, RMU has been working hard to create programs and services to help students and families navigate the college search process. As a result, and despite the declines many other institutions are anticipating, RMU is preparing for a larger freshmen and transfer class for Fall 2021 compared to the previous fall, and celebrations are planned to celebrate the upcoming centennial year.

The fall semester at RMU will mark the return of Homecoming and other longtime favorites such as BobbyMania and Oktoberfest -- as well as a gala celebration to formally mark the university’s founding in 1921.

RMU will welcome new and returning students to campus with its biggest party of the year, BobbyMania, on August 29. The event’s triumphant return will feature fireworks, games, prizes, activities, and lots of free food. Homecoming traditions resume October 8-10, including football vs. Charleston Southern. UPMC Events Center has begun booking fall concerts again, including country duo Brothers Osborne on November 20 and four-time Grammy winner Jason Isbell on December 7.

Also new for the fall are several new four-year degree programs including B.S. degrees in Health Sciences, Computer Science, and User Experience/User Interface (UX/UI).

The Class of 2025 includes five Next Century Scholars, students on full scholarships funded with a $3 million gift from Reed Hastings, founder and co-CEO of Netflix. That donation will fund a total of 20 full-tuition scholarships over the next four years.  The university also recently completed a 14,000-square-foot expansion to its School of Engineering, Mathematics and Science that adds four engineering labs as well as collaborative spaces open to all students and faculty and featuring virtual reality technology and 3-D printing equipment.

As additional encouragement for incoming freshmen, the university is offering a free summer class to all incoming freshmen who make a deposit for the fall. A fully revamped summer orientation also is in the works.
