  • RMU is set to host the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges (CCSC), Eastern Regional conference October 25-26. The CCSC conference is designed to promote the exchange of information among college personnel and K-12 educators concerned with computer use and education in the academic environment.
  • Accounting major Margo Gamble spent the summer studying Arabic in Meknes, Morocco as an awardee of the 2019 U.S. Department of State’s Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program. Margo was one of only 550 competitively selected American students representing 233 colleges and universities across the United States to receive a CLS award. Each CLS scholar spent eight to ten weeks in one of 26 locations studying 15 languages. 
  • Fifteen of the nineteen faculty members in the Computer and Information Systems Department as well as sixteen former students in the D.Sc. program information systems and communications attended the 59th annual conference for the International Association for Computer Information Systems (IACIS). The conference was held October 2 – 5 in Clearwater Beach, Fla. Twenty-six if the 120 papers were authored or co-authored by the CIS faculty and 32 by doctor of science alumni.

You're Invited

  • The university is hosting a viewing session on Monday, October 21 at 3 p.m. for Peter Block's book, "Community: The Structure of Belonging," in the Instructional Development Center in the Library. The reading is part of the Bridges and Pathways Annual Common Read and Author event. Bridges and Pathways is a college partnership between CCBC, Geneva College, Penn State Beaver, and Robert Morris University. 
  • Next Wednesday, October 23, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Franklin Center, the School of Informatics, Humanities and Social Sciences and the Career and Professional Development Center are hosting the Career Exploration Launch, featuring panels with industry professionals in the fields of law, public service and politics, psychology, criminal justice, and non-profit organizations, as well as information sessions on working and studying abroad, fellowships and scholarships, and The Washington Center. 
  • The 12th Annual Creepy Conference and Costume Contest takes place October 29 from 7-9 p.m. in the Wheatley Atrium. This year the audience will hear from:
    • Isabella Sierra - "Deadly Disney"
    • Emily Kerry - "The Weekend Romance"
    • Joshua Bednar - "Gozu: The Scariest Story Ever Told"
    • John Lawson - "The Condemned"
    • Sonu Babu - "Cult Leaders and Groupthink"
    • Jordan Redinger - "Copycat Crimes of the Cinema"
    • Lesa Bressanelli - "Non-normative Genetics and Folklore"
    • Soren Fanning - "UFOs: What's Debunked, What's Still Unknown"
  • Before the Creepy Conference, join Monica VanDieren, director of the university Honors Program and university professor of mathematics, at the Creepy Honors Roundtable from11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in Franklin 204. She takes listeners on an eerie journey through levels of infinity to uncover the Banach-Tarski Paradox...proof that self-replicating gremlins, tribbles, etc. could one day populate the world.
