  • Three Organizational Leadership graduate students, Garrett Wiseley, Rita Rehak, and Ginny Clousher, were finalists in the Graduate Division of the International Leadership Association's Student Case Competition, held at its annual conference October 25. Their presentation was on the United Nations' Sustainability Development Goal No. 5, Zero Hunger, in which they discussed the systemic and leadership issues about food insecurity and food waste around the world, and featured 412 Food Rescue, a nonprofit program started in Pittsburgh to redistribute unused food, which was a keynote highlight at the conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

  • The RMU Doctor of Nursing Practice program was well-represented by students, graduates, and faculty at the Pennsylvania Coalition of Nurse Practitioners (PCNP) conference on October 28-30. Faculty participants included Kirstyn Kameg, Luann Richardson, Judith Kaufman, and Denise Ramponi. At the conference, Ramponi, a professor of nursing, won the Dr. Mona Counts Award, given to a nurse practitioner who demonstrates:

    -Clinical practice with underserved populations
    -Dedication to the education and training of new nurse practitioners
    -Mentorship and leadership in policy, practice and/or education.
    -Love of the profession.
    -Identification and removal of barriers to effective NP practice
    -Increased public awareness of the nurse practitioner role locally

    Ramponi also placed second at the conference for her poster submission.
     

  • The Center for Innovation and Outreach along with Paul Badger, head of the Department of Science and the RMU Students for Environmental Science, engaged with 1,800 K-12 school students at the Carnegie Science Centers ChemFest last month. Several interactive displays created by Badger were explained to the middle school students by RMU undergraduates.  
  • The Center for Innovation and Outreach attended the middle school Pathways Career Exploration sponsored by the Beaver County Energy & Advanced Manufacturing Partnership.  This event was dedicated to familiarizing middle school students with higher education  opportunities and career paths in STEM related fields. There were approximately 500 students in attendance. 

  • Admissions will be holding their Fall Discovery Day on Saturday, November 13th in the UPMC Event Center at 9 AM. High School students and Transfer Students are invited to join us to talk to faculty, staff, and current students, as well as participate in an academic and activity fair. If your department is interested in participating, please reach out to Amanda Beal at beal@rmu.edu. If you know anybody that may be interested in attending the Discovery Day, they can RSVP here.

  • The Department of Athletics is hosting a Celebrity Hockey Faceoff at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 7, at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry. Tickets start at $20, and proceeds go to support the Hockey is the Goal campaign. A limited number of VIP packages for four seats remain, and cost $600. The VIP package includes reserved seat, post-game party access with celebrity/alumni player meet and greet opportunity and hospitality, and full-size hockey stick signed by participants from both teams.   • You're Invited to The WLMP Student Speaker Series! The WLMP will be hosting its Fall 2021 Student Speaker Series event at 6:30 p.m. November 9 in Hopwood Hall. This is a TED Talk style, student-led event that gives RMU students the opportunity to share their experiences, passion, and unique areas of interest with a public audience. Click here to RSVP.

  • Students from across RMU's campus will be presenting on the topic Partners in Excellence, and will be sharing their experiences with the value of teamwork and building strong partnerships. This event is SET-eligible for students. The WLMP is thrilled to share this event with the RMU community. We look forward to seeing you there! 

  • Join us for a very special Veterans Day celebration at 9 a.m. November 11 at the UPMC Events Center. The event will include breakfast and will open with the announcement of an exciting new initiative that will have a profound impact on all current and future veteran and military students. The keynote speaker will be Joe Calloway, U.S. Navy Veteran and CEO of RE360. RSVP online.

  • The Center for Global Engagement will host the virtual Rooney Scholars Speakers Series at noon on Thursday, November 11, featuring Syed Tanvir Wasti, who in 2004 was RMU's first Rooney International Visiting Scholar. RSVP here via Google Forms or here via Revolution.

  • The Center for Innovation and Outreach would like to extend a special invitation to attend our ln-person Innovation Speaker Series with lunch provided by the CIO on Thursday, November 18. Please respond to this short Google form to RSVP. If you cannot make the event there will be a recorded version made available afterwards. "Innovation & Innovative Thinking: Developing Global Solutions for the Future" will feature Ambassador Robin Renee Sanders D'10, a member of the RMU Board of Trustees, starting with lunch at 1:30 p.m. The lecture begins at 2 p.m. The lecture will focus on understanding today's global challenges and why innovation and innovative thinking are key to reducing their impact and what are the key 21st century skills linked to these mega trends.
