  • RMU graduate student Mykal Manswell is the recipient of the Chuck Cooper Foundation Scholarship for the 2020-2021 school year. This scholarship comes with a leadership outreach opportunity through the Cooper Leadership Program in which Manswell will mentor middle and high school students on academics and life skills. The scholarship is awarded to a deserving African-American student studying a graduate degree program who holds at least a 3.0 GPA. Manswell is expected to earn his M.S. in counseling psychology this May and currently works at KinderCare of Mt. Lebanon. His career aspirations are to become a certified mental performance consultant and licensed professional counselor and work as a counselor in sports. 
  • Earlier this week 18 participants from seven high schools attended a Virtual Career Exploration surrounding the field of data science. Mathematics department head Dave Hudak and assistant professor Adam Combs led the session engaging high school students, math teachers, and school counselors in the various facets of the career. The event also featured current RMU student Katrina Haberburger and recent graduate Nathaniel Miller who is employed at Nationwide. They spoke about what got them interested in a career in data science, internships, workshops, and scholarships that they participated in while studying at Robert Morris.   • The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) has approved the School of Nursing, Education, and Human Studies for their educator preparation programs for the next seven years. The school passed peer reviews on five standards set forth by the CAEP. 

Personal Mention

  • Mark Houser has published a new book, "MultiStories: 55 Antique Skyscrapers & the Business Tycoons Who Built Them," available on Amazon in trade paperback and Kindle ebook and also at Penguin Bookshop in Sewickley. The book features vintage postcard illustrations and fascinating background stories of dozens of attractive buildings you can see today in Pittsburgh and 35 other cities across America and abroad. Houser is the RMU director of news and information.

Upcoming Events

  • All are invited to attend a reading of creative works from students in John Lawson's creative writing class. The reading of poems, stories, and dramatic monologues begins Tuesday December 8 at 11 a.m. on Google Meet here. Please join us as we also welcome special guest and former professor Jay Carson.
