Personal Mention

  • Earlier this month Heather Pinson, head of the Department of English and the Humanities, presented at the second annual Documenting Jazz Conference in Birmingham, England. This conference was inspired in part from her book titled, The Jazz Image: Seeing Music Through Herman Leonard's Photography. Her book was one of the first academic publications on jazz and photography which inspired the conference organizers to create a conference that encompasses visual aspects of representing music.
  • President Chris Howard has been named to the American Council on Education's National Task Force on Transfer Credit, which is focused on improving transfer and award of credit practices to spur student success and reduce the time it takes to graduate. Other members include Michael Crow, president of Arizona State University, and Paul LeBlanc, president of Southern New Hampshire University. Read more here.
  • Larry Tomei, professor of education, recently published his first novel, Cyber Chronicles: Mary 1n The Box which focuses on today’s technologies and the inner workings of a digital forensics police lab as they engage a criminal activities ring that has targeted visitors to the Steel City – and killed one of their own. It's all about Pittsburgh, Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado Springs, the Global Positioning System, the Defense Satellite Program, and digital forensics. Read more about the book and see where you can purchase it here.
