  • Rune, the RMU literary magazine, invites employees to submit your photography, art, poetry, short fiction, and drama. You can submit up to three pieces. Word Limits: poetry, 500 words; fiction and drama, 1000 words. Formats: submit art and photography as .JPEG or. png files; submit poetry, fiction, or drama as doc. or docx files. Submit all files as attachments to rune@mail.rmu.edu by March 27 and please provide a brief bio. If your piece is selected, you may be invited to read or present at the Rune release party in April.
  • Earlier this week the Carnegie Science Center's Tour Your Future visited RMU's School of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science with Carnegie STEM Girls. STEM Girls explores careers in science, technology, engineering, and math with hands on experiences. This program gives girls ages 11-17 the opportunity to meet female professionals who work in the STEM field. RMU students, Ashley Horne, Xiara Long, Johnny Pham, Jeremy Kolar and professor Rika Carlsen led the event, which included a special session on Virtual Reality Coding.

Personal Mention

  • Christine Holtz, professor of media arts, has photography included in Counterpressures the 83rd installment of Carnegie Museum of Art’s Forum series. The installation presents a thematic group exhibition that addresses the urgency of climate change, curated by Hannah Turpin. The exhibition opens Thursday, February 20 and will be on display until July 12 at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Oakland.

  • Media Arts alumnus and founder of social app thrillhopElijah Carrington, will be guest speaker at A Massey Masterclass. Hosted by the Massey Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and co-hosted by the Media Arts Visiting and Scholar Program, this masterclass will explore how Carrington founded his design consultancy firm in 2018 and used its capital to propel him toward product development of thrillhop. Join us Wednesday, Feb. 19 from noon - 2 p.m. in the Wheatley Atrium for the presentation.

  • Media Arts Visiting Artist and Scholar Program invites you to a public lecture with award-winning director and cinematographer (and RMU graduate) Brad Grimm, Thursday, February 20, 12:30pm in the SIHSS Atrium, Wheatley Center. Grimm has always had a passion for storytelling and he started making films at the age of 11. While studying at RMU, he was the first university film student in 30 years to win both the College Television Awards and national internship from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. His transition into commercial and content work has allowed him to shoot for an ever-growing list of national and international brands including McDonald's, Lexus, Discovery, CNN, Rite Aid, ESPN and many others. His feature length documentary on the rags to riches story of Forrest Lucas, the founder of Lucas Oil, has played in film festivals around the country. "Tough Guys" which Grimm recently shot, is currently airing on Showtime.
