  • The Covestro Center for Community Engagement released its Good News Edition newsletter this week. Read about all kinds of good news happening in our community.
  • Marianne Watkins, director of power skating at the RMU Island Sports Center, is one of the 2020 Peterborough and District Sports Hall of Fame inductees. Watkins has worked as skating consultant for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers, Anaheim Ducks, and Columbus Blue Jackets developing their prospects and affiliate players.   • Senior marketing majors Zack Kutchma, Lizanne Marshall, and Josh Troiani are one of 10 teams nationally chosen as finalists in the L’Oréal Brandstorm 2020 competition. They will compete on May 8 against nine other teams — including NYU, Cal Berkeley, USC, and Howard University — in the finals for the best concept for a plastic-free future in the beauty industry. The finals, originally planned for New York, will be conducted virtually.
  • Junior criminal justice major Savannah Francois has been awarded a Newman Civic Fellowship by Campus Compact. The yearlong program supports students who have demonstrated an investment in finding solutions for challenges facing communities throughout the country. Francois is president of the new campus chapter of the Sigma Lambda Gamma sorority and
    president of the Organization of Latin American Students.
  • Junior psychology major Melanie Hall has been named to the youth advisory board of the Steve Fund. The national organization promotes better access to and knowledge of resources on campus and in the community for mental health and emotional well-being among minority groups.
  • RMU Student Government Association Executive Committee met virtually last week to select the recipients for the SGA 2019-20 Faculty and Staff Awards. Please help in congratulating the following faculty and staff:

  • Nominations for the Global Engagement Awards are due by today, Friday, April 17. These awards are designed to recognize globally engaged students, faculty, and staff/administrators who have made significant contributions towards continued growth and sustainability of the university core value of a global perspective.
  • To help students, faculty, and staff keep tabs on virtual events, we have created a new web page, rmu.edu/virtual, as well as a weekly email to the campus community featuring upcoming events. Among this week's featured events is a Facebook Live broadcast at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 19, of a documentary of the postponed performance of the musical "Godspell." The documentary is titled "Day by Day: the Story of RMU's Godspell." Members of the cast & crew will join live to host discussion while we join together to watch as a community. The Godspell cast & crew will also host a Q&A @robertmorrisuniversity on Instagram following the Facebook Live premiere, around 8 p.m. Also featured this week: The Top Secret Colonials are hosting their annual 48-hour gaming marathon, April 17-19, this year to raise money for the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank.
