A study of the preparation properties and reactions of the more important classes of carbon compounds. Emphasis is on reaction mechanisms stereochemistry and functional group characteristics. Topics covered include: IUPAC nomenclature conformations optical activity resonance functional groups IR spectroscopy mass spectroscopy nuclear magnetic spectroscopy.Students registering for this course must also register for the laboratory CHEM2425.
