This course introduces students to genres of academic writing required for the University Honors Program thesis and for upper-division research in their fields. Students examine rhetorical methods of argumentation by analyzing the scholarly arguments of other scholars and by writing scholarly texts of their own. Readings may include narrative (fiction/ non-fiction) and non-narrative forms aimed at various audiences (ex. scholarly educated lay audience) but shall include published scholarly works (articles book chapters etc.). Using these scholarly texts as models students craft their own scholarly text using credible scholarly sources in an ethical manner. Prerequisite: admission to the University Honors Program or permission from the Director of the UHP.
