This course considers the nature of literary interpretation by introducing students to concepts debates and controversies in criticism today. Students learn about common critical terms and theoretical approaches in the discipline of literary studies and apply these terms and approaches in the analysis of a text. In doing so students learn how to use critical theory to develop and support textual interpretations to write critical literary analyses and to participate in the professional discourse of this field. Credits: 3
