This course introduces students to the field of linguistics (historical sociological comparative) which is the study of language through phonetic syntactical morphological and semantic systems. Students learn the neurological basis of language the process of childhood language acquisition and adult language learning (both first and subsequent languages) and explore the evolution of language from ancient proto-languages to modern languages (with attention to regional historical and social variations) by comparing languages and dialects.Note: History of the English Language focuses on the development of English from the 500s to the modern day. 3 Credits Prerequisite: CSEN1020
