This course introduces students to the application of mathematical modeling and optimization to engineering analysis design operations and decision making. Several examples illustrate the use of modeling and optimization techniques to a variety of engineering problem. Numerous algorithms are discussed with critical assessment of performance of each algorithm and significance of related output streams. This course reveals that simple heuristics are not sufficient when solving complex optimization problems so students also learn the importance of using techniques that are guaranteed to yield optimal solutions.Prerequisite: MATH20703 Credits
