This course prepares students from all majors to engage confidently and responsibly with digital technologies in professional academic and social contexts. The course introduces artificial intelligence and builds foundational AI literacy through an examination of the major types of AI key historical milestones in its evolution and the current capabilities and inherent limitations of AI systems. Students explore potential applications and appropriate uses of AI in various industries and contexts and gain hands-on experience with AI tools building practical skills in effective prompt design and critical evaluation of AI-generated outputs. The course also strengthens essential digital literacy skills including evaluating the credibility of online information understanding how search engines and social media algorithms shape information exposure and recognizing misinformation and disinformation. Practical strategies for safeguarding digital identity and protecting data privacy are addressed by learning best practices for safe online behavior and awareness of common cyber threats. Ethical considerations are integrated throughout with attention to algorithmic bias responsible technology use and the broader societal implications of AI and digital technologies. 3 Credits
