This course provides the student with an introduction to the theory and practice of applying database technology to the solution of business and other information-related problems. Experience is provided with database design and implementation based on a thorough analysis of requirements and information modeling. A graphical user interface (GUI) approach to design and modeling is emphasized. An introduction to relational database technology is provided highlighting the use of Structured Query Language (SQL) and report generation. Database terminology and concepts data structures and a comparison of the relational database model with other models (hierarchical network and object-oriented) is addressed. Course includes hands-on experience with the design of and interaction with a working database management system.Pre-req: Completion of 60 credits
