This course is designed to enable students to explore how sex affects the way people behave as leaders in society and in organizations. Students will learn about how the sexes exercise power; how sex and gender play a role in world affairs; explicit and implicit implications of patriarchy as a social system and a cultural value; and social cultural and religious pressures to conform to ideals behaviors and attitudes. This course will examine the representations and misrepresentations of sex and gender and how stereotypes of male and female man or woman masculine or feminine affect our movement through the world. Students will attempt to make sense of the pervasiveness of discrimination and the beliefs and attitudes we hold often incongruously and unknowingly. The goal of the course is to examine how people express leadership specifically agency communality and competence and how to use that knowledge to improve their awareness and their interactions in organizations and as general members of society.
