The capstone requires a high-level engagement with ideas and concepts academic and applied. There are four goals of this course. Two are theoretical: to understand and be able to explain 1) why human beings are psychologically and culturally attracted to certain people-as-leaders and how we mythologize them; and 2) the idea of leadership as a relationship between leaders and their constituents with power authority and influence in action. Students will examine a critical approach to understanding leadership through specific historical eras how ideas developed over time and whether leadership theories we have are fit for purpose. And two goals are applied: 3) to draw on previous courses in the Leadership & Organizational Studies program to demonstrate leadership in a project of students? choosing creating an opportunity to lead some kind of effort influencing others to willingly go along with their ideas and 4) to reflect on their own developed ideas about leadership and identity as an aspiring leader.3 Credits
