Altered Reality

Altered Reality

"Unlike most universities with similar facilities, RMU keeps its animation and virtual reality labs open and available to faculty and students from any academic program."

Create your own world or change the world around you in the RMU Academic Media Center laboratories for virtual reality, augmented reality, and animation.

The VR/AR lab puts students in command of virtual reality environments for immersive storytelling and 360 video, plus augmented reality technology featuring a new Lightform projection mapping wall. In the animation lab, use 2D and 3D technology to tell stories by drawing, collage, CGI, and stop-motion photography. Both labs are open to all students, regardless of major.

Classes using 360 video have applied it not only to live athletics and documentary, but also to language education, real estate, even accounting. Virtual and augmented reality projects include videogame design as well as engineering and factory simulations and medical imaging and visualization. The immersive experience you create is as limitless as your imagination.
