“Brian and I met as freshmen, fall of 2007, at an honors program orientation in the chapel at RMU. Our director had us play an icebreaker game where you say your name and a word that describes you that starts with the same letter as your first name. I was Singing Sam and he was Bold Brian. A few weeks later, we both (separately) went to see a mutual friend in an RMU theatre production. My roommate had a nose for cologne, and she could instantly smell Brian’s roommate’s from where we were sitting (just a row behind them). My roommate wanted to meet Brian’s roommate, and since we had met before, I said I could arrange introductions. Although my roommate and his roommate did not work out, Brian and I started talking and hanging out more and more. We still credit my roommate and our mutual theatre friend for bringing us together. Our first official date was at a Penguins game, he first called me his girlfriend by the Nicholson staircase, our first kiss was outside of Gallatin... We grew up together at RMU and have been together ever since. We got married in Pittsburgh in July 2015. We currently live in Jacksonville, where Brian works for the PGA tour and I teach middle school English.”
