Undergraduate Academic Advising

At RMU, we utilize a centralized advising model provided by professional staff advisors in the Center for Student Success. Leveraging our Solution Central location in the Nicholson Center, students are provided key resources, staff support, and information all in one convenient location available by appointment and drop-in assistance. Additional advisement and mentorship is also provided to undergraduate students by their assigned Faculty Advisor in their respective academic department.

Here’s how it works:

Academic Advisors: Work collaboratively with their assigned advisees to support student success by assisting with course registration support, connecting students to university-wide and school specific resources, promoting an understanding of university policies and processes, and outlining the requirements for academic and degree programs.

Faculty Advisors: Mentor and advise students around career goals, internship and field-based experiences, support services, employment, and graduate school programs by working in tandem with the assigned staff academic advisor for their students to ensure compliance with academic program and graduation requirements. Faculty may also choose to engage in course registration support if they wish to do so.

Students can locate their assigned advising team by viewing their Banner Student Profile

  • Select students may also have additional advisors assigned in departments, including the Center for Global Engagement, Center for Veterans and Military Families, Honors Program, and for students enrolled in accelerated degree programs, to support their overall success.
  • CSS Academic Advisors will advise all Undecided and Undeclared Business students until they declare a major. Students will then transition to an advising team that supports their new program of study.

The Center for Student Success provides resources, promotes available self-service tools, and teaches students about the university’s registration processes. You can access the following resources from here:

Registration Tool Kit - Resources to help students complete the steps for course registration for the upcoming semester

DegreeWorks - A web-based tool to help students and advisors monitor students' progress toward the completion of their degree requirements, prepare for course selection and plan for timely graduation.
