Personal Mention

  • Connie Ruzich, university professor of English, had her anthology "International Poetry of the First World War: An Anthology of Lost Voices" published by Bloomsbury Academic Press. The book is the result of research begun in 2014 at the University of Exeter, where Ruzich spent a term as a Fulbright Core Scholar and where she began her First World War poetry blog, Behind Their Lines. British poet and radio broadcaster Ian McMillan has described the anthology as "an astonishing feat of literary archaeology, [which] cuts through the smoke and noise of the First World War to present us with poems that have been hidden in history’s unforgiving mud for far too long....Here is poetry's abundance in the face of horror."
