  • Author and Reason magazine editor Jesse Walker spoke recently on America's long history of conspiracy theories to students in History Professor John McCarthy's upper level 20th century American history course. Walker is the author of The United States of Paranoia: A Conspiracy Theory. Read more here.

Personal Mention

  • Last month, Associate Professor of Engineering Ben Campbell gave an invited talk for the Westinghouse Science Honors Institute (WSHI) titled "Adventures in Engineering: Lasers and Mechatronics."  WSHI is a 65-year old program serving several hundred high school juniors in western Pennsylvania each year. Students attend 10 Saturday lectures on a variety of topics to encourage their interest in science and give them a broader understanding of career paths. Other speakers this year are covering topics like bioengineering, astrophysics and nuclear power and represent Pitt, Penn State, NASA, and Westinghouse. Campbell presented examples from his previous career as a laser engineer specializing in ultrashort laser micromachining and his current work at RMU involving laser welding research and student-driven activities such as his astromech robot project. This was Campbell's 15th time presenting at WSHI.   
  • Ed Karshner, associate professor of English, has been invited to write a column called "Found Folklore" in Reckon Review, an online literary magazine, and his fictional short story “Der Butzemann” was accepted in an anthology titled It Came From the Swamp.

  • Christine Holtz, university professor of media arts, has been invited to show her work in the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh’s 111X111which runs from November 18 through December 28. at the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh Exhibition Space. 

  • Carolina Loyola-Garcia, professor of media arts, is on the design team for "Chimerica" performed by Quantum Theatre from November 27 to December 19. Her students assisted with creating a video for the performances.

  • Robert Morris University’s Arts and Humanities Department presents the outstanding work of our graduating seniors. Come to the Wheatley Center Gallery to view the best work from Digital Cinema and Television, Graphic Design, Interaction Design and Photography concentrations. The exhibition runs through December 21.

    Monday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 8 p.m.
    Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 7 p.m.

  • RMU’s Fall 2021 Creative Writing class is hosting a public reading. All are welcome: the event is free. The reading will take place December 7 at 11 a.m. in the Wheatley Cafe. Students of the Creative Writing class will be reading their own original work. This includes prose fiction, poetry, and dramatic writing. We hope to see you there!
