On August 12, the RMU Center for Innovation and Outreach hosted 15 high school students from the Carnegie Science Center's "Tour Your Future" Program. Tour Your Future invites girls and nonbinary youth ages 11–17 to discover unique and exciting careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. They are given the opportunity to meet female STEM professionals and experience what it’s like to work in a variety of industries ranging from healthcare, environmental science, vaccine research, agriculture technology. Rika Carlsen, professor of biomedical engineering, and several of her graduate and undergraduate students conducted an in person career exploration workshop to teach high school students to build heart monitors using a circuit board. Lab Engineer Tech Gabe Cottrell took them on an engineering lab tour where the students learned about all the various facets of engineering.
