RMU Book Bundle: Faculty FAQ

What is the RMU Book Bundle?

The RMU Book Bundle is a new option that Robert Morris University is providing students for renting textbooks and other course materials. Students save time and money by paying a flat rate each semester for all their textbooks and other course materials, which are delivered in a single convenient package.

Which students are eligible for this program?

All undergraduate and master’s students are automatically enrolled in the RMU Book Bundle program. Doctoral students are not eligible for the program.

Are students required to participate in the RMU Book Bundle program?

No, students can elect to opt out, and they can choose to do so on a semester-by-semester basis.

How much does the program cost students?

The cost is $27 per credit registered, no matter how many textbooks or other materials are required for each course. Students stand to save approximately 30 to 50% off the cost of their course materials in most scenarios.

How do students purchase course materials if they opt out of the program?

Students who opt out are free to purchase or rent textbooks and other course materials as they have always done – on an ala carte basis from the campus bookstore. Students have time to compare costs before making their decision to opt out.

What is included in the program?

The program provides all required textbooks, lab manuals, access codes, and digital textbook versions to eligible students.

What is excluded from the program?

Because this is a rental program, it does not include any item that cannot be returned and reused such as lab goggles, dissection kits, molecular model kits, engineering kits, or nursing kits.

Does this program change when I must adopt books and other materials for my courses?

No. You will continue to submit your course materials list to the bookstore by the deadline set each semester under the federal Higher Education Opportunity Act. For the Fall 2022 semester, that is April 4.

How will students receive digital materials?

Digital materials will be delivered to students either within Blackboard – if you have created and opened a Blackboard shell for your course – or via a download code from the publisher or book store.

What if I do not use Blackboard for all my courses?

You do not need to use Blackboard for your students to receive digital course materials. They will receive a download code from the publisher or the bookstore.

Is RMU still keeping textbooks on reserve at the library?

Yes. All students will still have the option to borrow textbooks, as available, through the library’s textbook reserve program.

Will students be able to keep course materials purchased through the RMU Book Bundle program?

The RMU Book Bundle is a rental program, so students will be required to return their materials to the bookstore at the end of each semester. Students will have the option to purchase any rented materials at a reduced cost during the return period.

When are students expected to return their materials?

Returns always take place during finals week of each semester.

How do faculty benefit from this program?

Because all class materials are delivered to students all at once, before the start of the semester, you won’t have to worry about disruptions that result when students delay buying materials long after classes have begun.
