COVID-19 Information: Campus Life and Residence Halls

RMU is committed to delivering students the high-quality education they deserve, despite the challenges of the pandemic. The university has updated its RMU Ready Plan for the spring semester to continue to protect the safety of all members of the campus community.

  • All students, faculty, staff, and visitors are required to wear masks indoors in all public or shared spaces (with the exception of dining facilities during meals while eating or drinking), and outdoors anywhere they are unable to maintain a sustained distance of at least six feet from other people who are not part of their household.
  • Masks are not a substitute for social distancing. Observe rules both for wearing masks and maintaining social distance. One does not replace the other.
  • Student clubs and organizations are encouraged, and in some cases, required to host meetings and events remotely or outdoors. Reservations for meeting spaces will continue to be staggered so as to allow for cleaning between uses.
  • Furniture is spaced out and unidirectional traffic signage is employed to assist with safe distancing in the library. Wipes and disinfectant products are available at the library help desk for users to wipe down equipment.
  • The Counseling Center remains open and staff are available for in-person crisis appointments. Staff also provide teletherapy via telephone or video conferencing.
  • Indoor recreational facilities continue to use capacity restrictions based on health requirements to maintain physical distancing. Locker rooms and shared shower facilities are closed.
  • Masks are required in residence hall common areas, along with reduced capacity in elevators and spatial indicators and signage indicating limits to the number of occupants.
  • The no guest policy remains in place inside the residence halls at all times, including visitors from off campus, commuter students, and students from other residence halls.
  • Resident students are grouped into “social pods” in relation to their housing assignments and encouraged to share activities, meals, programs, and restrooms for the purpose of building community, socializing, accountability, and health monitoring.
  • The university is providing temporary housing and care for individuals who cannot go home and must be quarantined or isolated on campus when suspected or confirmed to be infected with COVID-19.
