11/18/2021: Cybersecurity Internship Opportunity for College Seniors

  • The National Security Agency (NSA) in partnership with the Maryland Innovation & Security Institute (MISI) and the GBC MISI Academy seek applicants for an 8-week paid virtual internship program (March 7-April 29, 2022) designed for college seniors about to enter the technical workforce currently enrolled in an institution designated as a CAE-CD or CAE-CO by the National Security Agency Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity. 10/6/2021: WiCyS 2022 Call for Participation (CFP), Scholarships, Grants & Awards

The 9th annual WiCyS conference is set to be held March 17-19 at the Huntington Convention Center, Cleveland, OH. WiCyS is the only cybersecurity conference that has an equal representation of students and professionals in the audience. The call for presentations for workshops, tech talks, panels, lightning talks and student posters are OPEN now until October 18 deadline as are the applications for student scholarships, faculty lodging grants, the BIPOC Fellowship Award, and the Veterans Fellowship Award. All students MUST apply for WiCyS scholarship to attend the conference. The 2021 CISA Annual National Cybersecurity Summit will be held virtually as a series of webinars every Wednesday in October, beginning October 6 and ending October 27. The virtual Cyber Summit will be hosted on Microsoft Teams Live and can be viewed at cisa.gov/live.

09/21/2021: NSA Cyber Exercise (NCX) and Tech Talks

Two exciting opportunities have just been made available! The NSA Cyber Exercise (NCX) will be offered for the NCAE-C designated schools this academic year, and all students enrolled in NCAE-C designated programs will be eligible to attend the NCX Tech Talks. NCX Tech Talks are offered monthly between September and April and offer focused instruction on the NCX scenario subjects. Instructors are NSA technical directors and experts in their field. Contact RMU CAE POC for upcoming sessions of NCX tech talks.

NSA is excited to announce that the 2021 Codebreaker Challenge is now live! To get started, head over to nsa-codebreaker.org/register and sign up with your school email. We're really excited to watch you excel this year! In this year’s challenge, you’ll detect and respond to a compromise in a Defense Industrial Base company’s network. Each task in this year's challenge will require a range of skills. Network forensics, reverse engineering with Ghidra, vulnerability analysis, and exploitation are all in scope. We need you to call upon all of your technical expertise, your intuition, and your common sense.

April 13: CISA Emergency Directive 21-02 - Mitigate Microsoft Exchange Vulnerabilities
CISA published a Remediating Microsoft Exchange Vulnerabilities web page that strongly urges all organizations to immediately address the recent Microsoft Exchange Server product vulnerabilities. As exploitation of these vulnerabilities is widespread and indiscriminate, CISA strongly advises organizations follow the guidance laid out in the web page. The guidance provides specific steps for both leaders and IT security staff and is applicable for all sizes of organizations across all sectors.

April 12: Cybersecurity Teaching Workshops
University at Albany, SUNY is starting a training academy in cyber security for faculty through an NSA supported consortium led by the University of Colorado, Cold Springs. Through the academy, we are offering two different courses, i.e.  Information Security Risk Assessment and Introduction to Digital Forensics. Accompanying these courses, we will be offering teaching workshops to help faculty learn how to teach the material. The teaching workshops will discuss both pedagogical techniques as well as the materials that have been provided to teach (presentations, readings, assignments, and assessments). The teaching workshops will be taught with ten hours of synchronous teaching and two weeks of asynchronous learning with online materials. We are offering each of the three classes 3 times (summer 2021, fall 2021, and spring 2022). 10/30/2020:  A virtual Google Meet information and Q&A session will be conducted on Friday/Dec 4 at 2pm EST to introduce a generous Department of Defense (DoD) Cyber Scholarship Program (CySP) that pays U.S. citizen students (undergrad or grad) in cybersecurity majors at RMU full tuition & fees, a living stipend (25k -30k a year), and allowances for a laptop and textbooks and provides a full-time cybersecurity job upon graduation.
