Course Description: This course provides an overview for prospective PreK-12 teachers of the language systems characteristics and needs of Multilingual Learners (MLs) and various methods and techniques of providing comprehensible ML instruction. Specifically the course covers the following components: first and second language acquisition academic language and everyday language content area literacy for MLs modified assessments to MLs and professional resources and organizations serving MLs. Through the lesson presentation and class discussion teacher candidates will identify children?s strengths in English vary teaching approaches and design appropriate assessment tools in supporting MLs.
