This course examines the tools and practice of diplomacy introduces the American institutions of foreign policy and foreign service as a career. This class also emphasizes the categorization and applications of foreign policy tools such as cultural diplomacysport diplomacy and public diplomacy as well as looks into the degree to which the United States and other countries rely on them. Theory and practice of diplomacy are both equally emphasized therefore we will not only learn about foreign policy tools but we will also learn about their use. Finally the course explores new tools of diplomacycyber diplomacy and the use of social media.3 Credits
