Transfer Student Services
Transfer students are encouraged to utilize the services and resources provided by the Center for Student Success. In addition, the following initiatives and opportunities are available specifically for transfer students.
Transfer Student Seminar (FYSP1030)
The objective of the Transfer Student Seminar is to promote the development of both academic and personal skills for any student who has transferred to RMU from another academic institution. This course provides students with the knowledge and resources needed to ease the transition from one institution to another, assists in laying the groundwork for adjusting to academic major requirements and planning a career, and generally helps students feel connected to the university. This one-credit course includes six in-class sessions for the semester and two outside meetings with the student’s Peer Mentor and Success Coach.
Undergraduate transfer students are highly encouraged to complete this course during their first semester at RMU. The course is taught by the Transfer Student Advisor, Jonathon Saxman. A Peer Mentor also serves as a resource for students as they navigate their first semester at RMU.
Transfer Student Lounge
The Transfer Student Lounge is located in Hale 210. Transfer students may access the lounge using their RMU ID Card. This is a great space for transfer students to study, hang out between classes, and meet other students. The Transfer Student Lounge is equipped with a mini fridge for students as well as a microwave. If you are a transfer student and have any trouble accessing the Transfer Student Lounge, please email Jonathon Saxman at saxman@rmu.edu.
Programs/Events
There are a wide variety of programs and events designed specifically to improve and enhance the RMU experience for transfer students. Throughout the academic year, events will be held in the Transfer Student Lounge by the Center for Student Success, the Student Transfer Club, and Tau Sigma with many of these events being geared toward helping new transfer students acclimate to their new environment at RMU, meet other students through social events, or gain volunteer experience. Volunteering can be a great way to give back to the community. Additionally, volunteer experience can enhance your resume and be applied to your Student Engagement Transcript (SET). All events are posted on Revolution.
Student Transfer Club
The goal of this student-run organization is to provide a space for both incoming and existing transfer students to more easily socialize and develop connections on campus as they acclimate to their new environment. To learn more about the Student Transfer Club and any upcoming events, please check out their page on Revolution.
Tau Sigma
Tau Sigma is an academic honor society designed specifically to "recognize and promote the academic excellence and involvement of transfer students." The Theta Delta chapter serves to encourage and promote transfer students’ involvement on campus through a network rooted in volunteerism, community service, all while striving to further promote community among transfer students at RMU.
