"Studying abroad has given me the opportunity to see the world in so many different perspectives and has allowed me to become more independent."

Megan is studying early childhood education at Robert Morris. A unique experience came to life thanks to RMU’s Office of Scholar Development, which helped Megan apply for a one-of-a-kind scholarship.

Megan spent the Spring 2019 semester at Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, under the U.S. State Department Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship.

She also participated in a service learning program doing community service projects, including volunteer work at a local animal shelter. Back on campus, Megan works in the admissions office assisting with international admissions and is a mentor at the RMU Center for Global Engagement.

“Studying abroad has given me the opportunity to see the world in so many different perspectives and has allowed me to become more independent. If I did not study abroad, I don't think I would be as confident in myself and my work as I am today.”
