Department of Computer and Information Systems

No matter what line of business, most industries depend on information technology. The Department of Computer and Information Systems prepares students for success in this highly competitive and growing field. 

The department helps students develop professional experience through internships and cooperative education in Fortune 500 companies, nonprofit and health care organizations, and small businesses. Supervised work opportunities provide valuable hands-on experience in hardware and software technology, applications, and organizational operations.

Chris Morsey

From the more than 270 U.S. diplomatic outposts around the world, information and data about water, gas, electricity, and other energy uses is collected and whisked back to Washington on a minute-by-minute basis. When the State Department was looking for a senior IT project manager to manage this new and expanding system, three- time RMU graduate Chris Morsey jumped to the top of their list.

Alana Hiner

The world of big data is quickly growing into a universe, and ALANA HINER has already helped it along. First attracted to the field because of the seemingly limitless possibilities it offered, Alana has used what she learned as a data analytics major to help change how her school operates.

Erin Stoughton

Erin Stoughton used her education at RMU to rise from serving tables at an Eat’n Park restaurant to shaping the public face of the beloved Pittsburgh company. Working as a server while earning her bachelor’s degree in communication, she landed an internship in the company’s marketing department shortly before graduating in 2004. The company extended her internship until they could find a permanent place on their team.

Data Analytics M.S.

Taught by experienced faculty, the M.S. in Data Analytics gives students actionable insight that provides a real competitive advantage in a data-driven world.

This program extends the concepts in systems analysis and information systems management to the tools, concepts, and processes used to collect, analyze, store, and support organizational decisions from external information sources.

Cybersecurity M.S.

Develop high-level technical and management knowledge and skills needed to protect cyber infrastructure and information assets.

The growing number of cyberattacks on national and organizational information technology infrastructures highlight the rapidly growing demand for professionally trained experts of cybersecurity. The program is designed to prepare students for new careers in cybersecurity and working as professionals in the field to further advance their professional success.

Mathematics B.S. (Financial Mathematics)

The B.S. in Mathematics with a concentration in Financial Mathematics prepares graduates for a wide variety of careers in the financial services industry and other jobs requiring a combination of strong financial and quantitative skills. Faculty members are specialists in their areas of expertise, and all have related work experience as practitioners in the field, giving students a competitive edge in their careers.
