Residential Living During Thanksgiving and Winter Holiday Break FAQ

Will there be a designated winter move-out date and time window?

No, you can move out on the date and time of your choice. Family members/guests are not permitted in the residence halls. You must bring your own items outside without assistance and meet your family members/guests outside the building. When determining your plans, please follow the RMU Ready Plan. Reminder: November 20, 2020 is the beginning of Thanksgiving break. 

Virtual instruction will resume on Monday, November 30 for the last two weeks of the semester. Final exams will be held virtually as well. All students will be required to vacate the residence halls by Sunday, December 20 at 5:00 p.m. 

Can I stay on-campus past November 20, 2020 if I need to?

If you are unable to leave campus by November 20, 2020 we will offer interim housing for the week of November 20 – November 29. Please fill out the November and December Housing Plans Form to let us know of your plans.

Can I stay on-campus past December 19, 2020 if I need to?

If you are unable to leave campus by December 19, we will offer interim housing between December 20, 2020 – January 9, 2021. Please fill out the November and December Housing Plans Form to let us know of your plans.

Can I have someone pick me up and enter my room to move me out?

Move out helpers are not permitted in the residence halls. You must bring your own items outside without assistance and meet them outside the building.

Will my items be secure over winter break?

Your items will be safe in your room, suite, or apartment over winter break but remember to take any valuables and anything you will need during break home with you.

Will my housing assignment change for spring term?

No, your housing assignment will not change for spring term.

Do you need to know what my plans are for thanksgiving break, returning to campus after Thanksgiving, and returning to on-campus housing in the spring?

Yes, we do need to know what your plans are for Thanksgiving Break, returning to campus after Thanksgiving, and returning to on-campus housing in the spring. If you have not already, please fill out the November and December Housing Plans Form.

Will housing and dining rates change for the spring term?

Housing and dining rates will not change for the spring.

I am deciding to leave on-campus housing for the spring semester. What do I need to do?

If you are deciding to leave on-campus housing for the spring semester we would like you to complete the November and December Housing Plans Form and the Housing Cancellation Form. If your Housing Cancellation submission is approved, we will ask that you remove all of your belongings from your room on the date that you indicated on the November and December Housing Plans Form.

If I have a roommate who is not returning for spring, will I get a new one?

If your roommate is not returning or if you currently have a vacancy in your room, it may be filled with a new student next term. Please make sure you move all of your belongings to one side of the room.

If I decide, later, not to return for spring, will I be able to pick up my belongings?

If you decide, later, not to return for spring, we will provide you with information on picking up your belongings when you advise us of those plans.

When can I move back in for the spring term?

Spring move-in details are being finalized and will be shared in January. Watch your RMU email for information.

Will I need to shelter in place for fourteen days when I move in for the spring term?

Yes, we would like you to do your best to quarantine at home for two weeks (14 days) and to follow the guidelines outlined in the RMU Ready Plan while at home.

Can I leave campus for Thanksgiving and return for finals or winter break?

Yes. please continue to follow the guidelines outlined in the RMU Ready Plan while at home.

If I stay on campus for winter break, will I be able to stay in my current room?

Yes, you will not be required to move to a different location on campus because you are staying for the break.
