Human Simulation

Human simulation occurs synchronously when a trained actor interacts with a learner to provide safe opportunities for learning utilizing “role playing” that can be both scripted and/or improvised depending on the learning objectives of the simulated activity.

Our Standardized Patient (SP) Program: What SPs provide for learners mimics real life human interactions.  Our actors can portray a variety of medical conditions, act as family members and/or other healthcare professionals as part of the simulated experience.  SPs support student learning by also providing constructive feedback to learners about the interaction, learners are encouraged to formulate specific questions to ask the SP about the simulation.  Feedback that is customized to each learner has been a valuable tool for professional identity development.
