Sport Communication

This 12-credit certificate program affords students the opportunity to explore sports communication. Students will hone skills in writing and reporting, and will also evaluate critical economic, social and political influences on sports journalism and the sports communication industry. Assignments designed to enhance the students’ writing and research abilities dominate these courses.

The certificate is especially valuable to students studying related fields such as sports management and sports psychology, although the content will interest any student.

Strategic Communication

This 12-credit certificate program provides students with the opportunity to learn andunderstand how strategic communication fits into many different professional organizational contexts.Students will learn the complexities of the ways in which strategic communication encompasses both internal and external organizational communication.

Environmental Communication

This 12-credit certificate program provides students with the opportunity to understand the environment through the window of preservation, conservation and sustainability. As more natural resources are being depleted and global attention focuses on how to preserve and repair our natural resources, nonprofit and for-profit organizations are being monitored for sustainable practices, transparency, and relationship-oriented communications in building and maintaining a public presence that is environmentally sensitive.

Meet Colby Sherwin ‘24

Colby graduated this May with a Bachelor of Arts in News and Sports Communications. He is now working full time as a Morning Show Producer at WTAG-TV.

During his time at RMU, Colby was involved in RMU Sentry Media where he served as Editor in Chief. He also was involved in RMU TV, RMU Radio and interned for the Pittsburgh Penquins!

Meet Meghan McGinnis '24

Meghan graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and Advertising. During her time at RMU, she served as a Colonial Ambassador, and was additionally a member of the Sport Management Association, Active Minds, and Women in Sports and Events. 

In addition to her student activities, she also worked as a Communications Intern for ATI. Upon graduation, she accepted a position as a Freelance Communications Professional with Oyster Creative Co.
