Department of Accounting & Taxation

RMU was founded as the Pittsburgh School of Accountancy in 1921, which reflects a long history of offering accounting programs at the university. Today, the Department of Accounting and Taxation provides students with both a solid technical foundation and the skills needed to develop a successful career in accounting and business.

The department’s faculty members prepare students for careers in public accounting, private industry, nonprofit organizations, or government. Students are prepared to pursue their CPA through the department’s curriculum which satisfies Pennsylvania’s required 150 credit hours of coursework.Internships provide an excellent way for accounting students to apply classroom learning to a real-world practice setting. The department also sponsors a Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, and the Association of Future Accountants, which provides students with opportunities to learn from outside speakers, network with accounting professionals, engage in community service, and interact with fellow RMU students and faculty.

Our Mission

Building on our university’s heritage as a school of accountancy and our culture of academic excellence, the mission of the Robert Morris University Department of Accounting and Taxation is to elevate students by providing them with pathways to career success, developing their professional knowledge base and skills in the fields of accounting and taxation, and fostering their overall intellectual acuity through a student-centered educational approach.
