Passwords and Accounts 
How do I activate my RMU user account?

To activate your account navigate to http://rmu.edu/activate and enter the following information:

  • RMU ID Card
  • Number Social Security
  • Number DOB/Date of Birth
  • Choose a new password
How do I unlock my user account?

If your RMU Sentry, email or computer login is locked, please wait 15 minutes and try to login again. You can also reset you password by visiting: http://rmu.edu/password

If this does not work, please contact the IT Help Desk at 412-397-2211 or help@rmu.edu

How do I change my User Account Password?

If you forgot your password click here: http://rmu.edu/password

You will then click on the “Forgot Password” or “Activate Your Account” links in the Login box and follow the instructions. Here, you will enter your RMU ID Card number, Date of Birth, and the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number. If you don't have a Social Security Number use the last 4 digits of your RMU ID number. Or if you are a Canadian student, please use your Social Insurance Number (SIN).

How to I setup a guest account (such as for a parent or guardian)?
  1. Once you activate your user account, log into Sentry Secured Services (http://rmu.edu)
  2. Then go to the Demographic section, click on Student Release Form and complete the indicated information regarding guest access.
  3. When complete, navigate to http://rmu.edu/activate (there is also button for Guest Access in the Student Release Form)
  4. Enter the appropriate information and select the guest account
  5. Enter a password for the guest access
  6. The student must communicate the login information (user name) and password to the guest
How do I verify my email?

I can’t login to my RMU Gmail account?

Please make sure your password is active. Your account will lock if you don’t reset your password after 60 days. To reset your password please visit http://rmu.edu/password. If you password is active, please ensure: Students: you are using @mail.rmu.edu after your user name (ex. foo@mail.rmu.edu); Faculty/Staff: you are using @rmu.edu after your user name (ex. foo@rmu.edu). If you need further assistance, please contact the IT Help Desk at 412-397-2211 or help@rmu.edu

I didn’t change my Gmail password but it says it’s been changed?

You may have missed the 60-day password reset period and your account was locked. To reset your password please visit http://rmu.edu/password. Here, you will enter your RMU ID Card number, Date of Birth, and the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number. If you don't have a Social Security Number use the last 4 digits of your RMU ID number. Or if you are a Canadian student, please use your Social Insurance Number (SIN).

I can’t sign into my Gmail account, it keeps displaying my personal mailbox?

Please visit mail.rmu.edu it may automatically sign you into your personal or work Gmail account? To access your RMU Gmail account, go to the upper right-hand corner of that screen. You should see a circle with a  letter in it, click the circle. You will see “add account”, click the button and you will be prompted to “sign in”. Enter your full RMU email address (ex. foo@mail.rmu.edu) and password that you use to access Sentry. Once logged in you should see your RMU Gmail. To switch between your RMU and personal/work Gmail accounts, you can click that circle in the upper right-hand corner. In the drop-down menu, you will see all the accounts you are currently logged into. Click on one and it will open that account's inbox.

How do I get help with changing my password?

Why do I have to change my password every 60 days?

Robert Morris University is committed to a secure online environment. Today the need for a strong password policy is greater than ever.

Is this password change mandatory for everyone?

Yes, every Robert Morris University account participates in a 60-day password change.

What accounts are affected by password change?

Sentry Secured Services, Windows/Mac Login, VMware View, and Google accounts.

How will I be notified if I have to change my password?

Prior to your password expiring, you will receive an email notification.

Do I have to change my password on my mobile device once I do a password change?

Yes, you will need to change your password anywhere you sign-in to your account. Your mobile device will prompt you to change your password. If you are enrolled in 2-Step Verification and have a 16-character application specific password on your device, this password will never need to be changed.

What if I change my password before the 60 day password change policy?

You may change your password at any time. The new password will remain for 60 days or until your change it.

How do I get 2-step codes?

With 2-step verification, known as two-factor authentication), you add an extra layer of security to your account. After you set it up, you’ll sign in to your account in two steps using: something you know (your password) and something you have (like a phone). In order to create and retrieve more backup codes, login to your Gmail account. Go to settings (using the gear icon) > Accounts > Change account settings:

Google Account settings > Sign in and Security > 2-Step Verification > Backup Codes. You can generate new codes and print them.

I don’t have my phone to get my 2-step verification code? How do I sign in?

If you cannot access your email account you must reset your password Reset the password by going to rmu.edu/activate

 

Getting 2-Step Codes

Open a new tab Log into the Gmail account using the new password Click the "More Options" link Click "Use one of your 8-digit backup code" link Enter the 2-step backup code Click on the grid of squares (Google Apps), click on My Account Click the "Security" tab Click on the "2-step Verification" tab Type in the account's password Add your phone number and/or or select Backup Codes

  • Enter the last ten digits of your RMU ID card number, the last four digits of your SSN, and your date of birth. On the next page
  • Select the checkbox for a two step backup code.
  • If a 2-step code does not appear, click the “Get next unused backup code” link

 

What is my RMU ID Card number?

Your RMU ID card number is on the front of the card. If you don’t have an RMU ID Card, please contact the IT Help Desk at 412-397-2211 or help@rmu.edu and you will receive assistance.

What is my Student ID number?

Your Student ID number is a six digit number. You can find this number by logging into sentry secured services here and then clicking on the "my account" option in the drop down menu under your name, located in the right top corner of the screen.

How and where can I print?

Please visit http://www.rmu.edu/printing for more information. The RMU Print and Mail center is located at 300 Grant Drive within the Facilities Service center, across from campus behind the Giant Eagle supermarket. 

How can I access the EAB Navigate Student mobile app?

The EAB Navigate Student mobile app is intended for student use. Please visit https://www.rmu.edu then click on “Students” in the upper left of the screen for additional information.

How can I access the RMU mobile app?

How do I enable automatic computer updates?

For security and stability issues, it's important to keep your devices up-to-date with the latest updates. The easiest way to do this is utilize the automatic update capability of your device.

Automatic Updates for Windows

All Windows computers should have automatic updates turned ON to minimize security risks and maximize computer performance.

To manually bring your computer up to date
Go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com. If Automatic Updates (look on right side of screen) does not say Turned ON, then click to turn them on. Click on the Express button for all updates.

Automatic Updates for Mac OS X

Mountain Lion or later
If you're running Mountain Lion or later, OS X and apps can be updated through the Mac App Store. For information on updating through the Mac App Store, visit http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1338

Lion (OS X v10.6) or earlier
If you're running Lion or earlier, OS X can be updated by going to the Apple Menu and then clicking on Software Update. For more information on how to do this, visit http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1338 and scroll down on the page to where it says "Updating your software in OS X Lion, Mac OS X v10.6, or earlier."

How do I request remote support?

The RMU IT Help Desk can provide remote technical support to Students, Faculty, and Staff via TeamViewer.

Please contact the RMU IT Help Desk at 412-397-2211 to initiate the remote support session. The technician will need "Your ID" number and "Password" to establish the remote support session. Once the connection is established, a utility box with their username will appear at the bottom right corner of your screen; notifying you that your screen is being shared.

 
**Please do not provide the above "Your ID" and "Password" to the RMU IT Help Desk Technician, as it is a test sample. 
How do I access Sentry Secure Services?

Sentry Secured Services is accessible in a few different ways:

From the myRMU page, you can sign in on the righthand side. In the footer section of the website, you will find a link titled Login. Additionally, you can login directly from either of the convenient quicklinks: rmu.edu/login or rmu.edu/sss.

How do I get my transcript?

To get your transcript please go to http://rmu.edu/transcripts

If you no longer have access to your RMU account, you can use the Student Search option on the right hand side. Then, you can enter your RMU ID Card number OR your first name, last name, last four digits of your SSN, date of birth, and a maiden name if you’ve changed your name since attending RMU.

How do I get Microsoft Office?

RMU's Office 365 license allows current students to download Office for free. Please go to portal.office.com and login use your RMU email and password (as if you were logging into Sentry). Other RMU Discounts can be found at: http://rmu.edu/discounts

How do I access VMware?

You can access VMWare from view.rmu.edu. This will allow you to connect to various RMU software applications. To download the application click on the cardboard box, click on your type of device, and then click the blue download link. Once installed, you must specify view.rmu.edu as the View Connection Server.

Alternatively, you can go to https://view.rmu.edu and click the RMU monitor icon on the right side "VMware Horizon HTML Access" to use the web browser for accessing the virtual desktop environment. Please note that USB devices cannot be mapped through the HTML access method. USB can only be accessed via the software client. Also, the copy and paste functions only work via the software client, not the HTML access method.

Your user data and files on these systems (Desktop, Documents, etc.) will NOT be kept between sessions.

Please save all files to your U:\ (user) drive and avoid saving files to the local (C:\) drive as they will be erased when you logout or disconnect

How do I setup my TV?

RMU provides TV access for on-campus resident students through Xfinity on Campus. If you are on a mobile device you can download the Xfinity on Campus app.

If you want to stream to a TV, Roku devices can access the Xfinity on Campus app.

If you are on a computer, go to xfinityoncampus.com, specify Robert Morris University as your school, and sign in using your RMU user ID and password.
